|
The Tourism & Art of Living sector is a major contributor to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) economy, supported by its cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and established industries in gastronomy, hospitality, and luxury.
With 34 million visitors annually, PACA is one of the world’s leading tourist destinations and the second-largest European region for tourism capacity. Its infrastructure supports high visitor flow with two international airports (Nice Côte d’Azur and Marseille Provence), 15 high-speed train (TGV) stations, and a well-developed road and motorway network.
The region has 2,200 listed historical monuments and five UNESCO World Heritage sites. It hosts 220 festivals each year, including the Cannes Film Festival, Festival International d’Art Lyrique in Aix, and the Avignon Festival, as well as international sporting events like the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet and 2024 Olympic competitions in Marseille.
Beyond tourism, the Art of Living in PACA is shaped by its food, wine, and local craftsmanship. Approximately 90% of the population resides in urban areas, contributing to a vibrant city life. The region is a global center for wine production, particularly in Côtes de Provence rosé, and is known for olive oil, truffles, and Provençal markets. It has a strong culinary tradition, with several Michelin-starred restaurants and renowned culinary institutions.
